Guardians of the Galaxy expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe.
To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer.
When Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand with the galaxys fate in the balance.
This has been a hugely creative journey for the cast and crew involved in this film. We had to develop products specifically for this film, working alongside a cosmetologist, David Stoneman. Spending weeks developing many different skin tones for our aliens, with products that were suitable for delicate skins, yet durable enough to withstand our long filming days, water resilient and not transferable.
Our hair work was unusual and challenging within itself, creating looks to help define the various alien species. There was a worldwide search to find an actress to play Nebula as her head needed to be shaved. Of course the task fell upon us, the hair department, to talk the actress through it and to shave her luscious waist-length locks off.
Alongside our makeup and hair work, we had specially designed contact lenses and teeth made, to finish the looks off…..not to mention the prosthetics that had a big part to play.
Our leading actors are unusual and varied, namely, Chris Pratt (Peter Quill), Benicio Del Toro (The Collector), Lee Pace (Ronan), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Michael Rooker (Yondu), to name a few…..
I would love to share some behind the scenes pictures of the make ups in progress but you’ll have to wait until nearer the release.
……You are in for a real treat.
